We are looking for a

Research Assistant
(m/f, part-time, flexible hours)

who will be supervised by Prof. Catalina Stefanescu-Cuntze. The project aims to model the price of commodity futures contracts as a function of observed explanatory variables and unobserved global inventory levels. The parameters of the models need to be estimated using a large data set of futures prices for different commodities over several time periods. With the estimated parameters, the unobserved true levels of inventories can then be recovered.

We estimate the project to take a maximum of roughly 500 hours total and the working time is flexible.

Your tasks will beYou are qualified, because you
  • work on a research program, which lies at the interface between finance and statistics
  • code up optimization algorithms for likelihood estimation of statistical models  
  • review literature, formulate and solve mathematical models and write research papers
  • are a master or PhD student in Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or Finance
  • have strong modeling, analysis and optimization skills, and familiarity with statistical estimation and data management
  • have knowledge or interest in statistical estimation practice (in particular familiarity with the Kalman filter).
  • have strong computing skills, preferably in Matlab
  • have knowledge in financial models of futures pricing (not required but would be asset)
  • have good English skills and are motivated to work in an international academic environment

Purpose of the job

You will be responsible for all aspects of development for the ESMT Hub Project. This is broken down into 3 distinct areas:

  1. To project manage on all edtech matters
  2. To execute on project implementation and delivery processes
  3. To take responsibility for ensuring continuous on time, in budget delivery from the team to agreed quality standards

As edtech project manager you will be responsible for

Project management matters

  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders
  • Prioritize demand, assess ease of implementation for programs, and prepare the project plan (incl. scope, resources, schedule and cost)
  • Organize and coordinate updates to existing operational processes and identify new processes and procedures to ensure projects being delivered to customers on time
  • Co-ordinate and secure commitment of internal and external resources
  • Liaise with the technical team (IT) to ensure technical set up is planned and resourced
  • Act as the single point of contact for the Hub project team

Project execution

  • Track progress and manage any changes to the project scope, schedule or costs
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation including user guides, operating instructions, modular structures, data collection points and improvements
  • Coordinate cross-project activities, including organizing/scheduling stakeholder update meetings
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques, reporting and escalating to management as needed
  • Coordinate and communicate risk and resource management changes
  • Co-ordinate and manage communication between the learning designers, faculty, suppliers and production

Ongoing quality assurance

  • Assure the reliability and consistency of programs by checking processes and quality checking the final output
  • Be on the lookout for opportunities for improvements and develop new efficient procedures
  • Maintain feedback reports, lessons learnt and relevant documentation
  • Maintain data records of customer satisfaction to recommend new or updated programs, service improvement projects and identify new opportunities

Instructional Designer / Learning Designer

Purpose of the job

You will be involved in all stages of the development lifecycle of blended courses at ESMT Berlin from design through to evaluation.

As instructional designer you will be responsible for

Design

  • Scoping new online and blended projects, identifying project objectives, defining learning objectives and establishing target audiences
  • Overseeing and coordinating the planning, design and development of high quality online and blended programs of study and managing related projects and staff involved
  • Designing, assessing and improving the student learning experience of online modules and understanding what activities work (and don’t work) in the online and blended space
  • Working with academic staff on their content requirements and identifying appropriate and innovative solutions
  • Providing technical expertise to academic staff, including knowledge of a variety of online platforms and tools that are used both by the Business School and freely available online
  • Writing clear and effective storyboards for the development and delivery team to work from
  • Coordinating the development of module content with the online and blended learning team
  • Developing learning outcomes and creating content that matches them by applying tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
  • Creating engaging learning activities and compelling module content, using instructional graphics, web content and media as appropriate

Delivery

  • Briefing and supporting of academic staff (and, where appropriate, teaching assistants) on the delivery on online modules
  • Suggesting the use of appropriate teaching and learning support and deciding on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments and methods to support this
  • Overseeing the guidance, demonstrations and training provided to academic staff on the use of the virtual learning environment (VLE) in teaching, learning and assessment
  • Working collaboratively with academic staff and other relevant colleagues to oversee the efforts of learning technologists, teaching assistants and contractors and coordinating the instructional design effort on projects
  • Designing and implementing processes to streamline online activity to enable ESMT Berlin to develop a consistent and scalable approach to online and blended learning

Evaluation

  • Directing, overseeing and coordinating the review and evaluation of the effectiveness of the online materials and modules
  • Reviewing and amending module content post-delivery, to ensure consistency and alignment with our learning design approach and templates
  • Conducting instructional evaluation and analysis on learners and contexts

Other activities

  • Maintaining project documentation and module structures/folders
  • Participating in appropriate university groups and committees concerned with Blended Education/Online Learning
  • Keeping abreast of developments in learning technologies in higher education and beyond in order to improve and enhance learning technologies support provision
  • Actively participating in a relevant program of pedagogical training
  • Liaising with external agencies, academics, teaching assistants as necessary

You should have the following experience, knowledge and skills

  • Some experience in teaching, or the ability to provide instructional design consulting services to internal and external subject matter experts and prospective partners/clients to design effective learning program
  • Expertise relating to pedagogical concepts and lesson/curriculum planning

Purpose of the job

You will report to the head of operations (degree programs) and will be responsible for cross-program student services by supporting students before and during their ESMT study program and promoting an environment that is responsive to student needs.

As student services manager you will be responsible for

Student record management

  • Maintain student records database, serving as a steward of student records from application to degree conferral
  • Coordinate registrar services (transcripts, diplomas, verification of enrollment for employers, etc.) for alumni

Relocation and on- and off-boarding

  • Provide assistance with international or domestic relocation (visa and residence permit applications for students and their families, Bürgeramt registration, health insurance, bank accounts, housing, child care, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with the Berliner immigration authorities and the German Embassies worldwide
  • Manage the enrollment process of admitted students (incl. issuing of study contracts, confirmation of enrollment, etc.)
  • Administer post degree conferral process (ensuring school property is returned and fees are paid)

Campus life

  • Organize and schedule German courses for students
  • Plan and facilitate Orientation Week activities
  • Develop and manage student clubs and organizations to meet the diverse needs of the degree programs
  • Collaborate with Alumni Relations and Degree Program management, organize student events, MasterClasses and other leadership events
  • Coordination of exchange program partners (with degree program team)
  • Meet regularly with student representatives

Financial aid support

  • Identify external funding resources for students such as scholarships and loans
  • Oversee US student loan and GI Bill processes
  • Coordination of Responsible Leaders Fellowship program (visa and residence permit support, travel, stipend management)
  • Coordination of Kofi Annan Business School Fellowship Program (with admissions and relevant program management team)

You should have the following experience, knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Three years’ experience in managing student activities, programs or services, or a combination of experience that demonstrates the abilities to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the role
  • Outstanding communication skills and experience working with a diverse group of students
  • Demonstrated passion for providing high-quality service, process and outcomes with attention to detail and excellent follow through
  • The ability to facilitate effective collaboration, innovation and creativity among faculty, students and ESMT staff

In verschiedenen Abteilungen/Bereichen unserer Hochschule (Events, Marketing, Faculty Resources, Admissions Office, Information Center, Program Management, It Support) suchen wir für unseren Campus in Berlin regelmäßig

Studentische Hilfskräfte
(m/w, 16-20 Stunden pro Woche, 11,20 Euro pro Stunde)

Ihre möglichen Aufgaben

  • Sie werden in einer unserer Abteilungen eingesetzt
  • Sie Erstellen und überarbeiten Präsentationen oder andere Kursmaterialien
  • Sie helfen Seminarprojekte und verschiedene interne Veranstaltungen zu organisieren
  • Sie recherchieren zu verschiedenen Themen im Internet
  • Sie formatieren Texte und helfen Forschungs- und Lehrunterlagen vorzubereiten
  • Sie helfen bei allgemeinen administrativen Aufgaben

Ihr Profil

  • Sie befinden sich in einem Vollzeit Bachelor- oder Master- Studium und sind noch mindestens ein Jahr eingeschrieben
  • Sie beherrschen die englische und deutsche Sprache in Wort und Schrift (die Geschäftssprache der ESMT ist Englisch)
  • Sie arbeiten selbstständig und akkurat
  • Sie verfügen über sehr gute organisatorische Fähigkeiten und effizientes Zeitmanagement
  • Sie arbeiten gerne serviceorientiert und proaktiv
  • Idealerweise haben Sie erste Büroerfahrung

Internships for Refugees (m/f, for the duration of 3 months)

We are looking for motivated Interns (m/f)

We offer

Three-month orientation internships in one of the most international working environments in the heart of Berlin where you will work closely with one of our teams. Upon your start as an intern we will provide thorough training to prepare you for your new responsibilities and will introduce you to the German and international work environment. For your internship you will be compensated with 400€ per month.

The internship will be 40 hours per week. Fewer hours are also possible upon negotiation for example if there are German classes that need to be taken as well.

As an intern you will

You should apply if you

  • work in one of the departments of ESMT in an international team
  • support the corresponding department with general office and administrative tasks
  • have first experience from other administrative positions in your home country
  • are computer literate
  • have first experience with programs of the MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • can communicate well in English and or German
  • Accounting and Controlling (open for applications)
    • this is what you can learn / what you will be doing:
      • administrative duties (processing and filing bills, booking, working with databases)
      • travel expenses accounting
      • learning how to use the program “DATEV Kostenrechnung”
      • insight into the field of controlling
    • specific requirements
      • German and English at least finished B1-Level
      • prior knowledge of the Accounting and Controlling field (former internships at home country / volunteering / started degree in a familiar field / some work experience in the field)
